Chairman of City Broker BGC Pledges Personal Donations to Charities
London, September 9, 2005 – Lee Amaitis, Chairman of worldwide brokerage firm BGC Partners, today personally agreed to donate $5,000 per wicket taken by Shane Warne in both innings during the final Ashes Test Match which started at the Oval in London yesterday. Similarly, he agreed to donate $500 per run by Kevin Pietersen to his nominated charity also.
Warne and Pietersen both made personal appearances at BGC’s offices on Wednesday to help promote BGC’s upcoming Charity Day which takes place on Monday 12th September.
The Charity Day will raise money for:
· CLIC Sargent, which supports children suffering from leukaemia or
· charities chosen by clients - 20% of each client's revenue on that day
donated to their nominated charity
· the Cantor Foundation, which will distribute to charities it supports
including the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and the Euro Brokers
· the Shane Warne Foundation which raises money to support various
established charities such as the Make a Wish Foundation, plus
Kevin Pietersen’s selected charity
Lee Amaitis said, “I wish to acknowledge my personal appreciation to both Shane and Kevin for the time spent at our offices on the eve of the Oval Test to promote our first ever charity day. I’m especially appreciative that both Shane and Kevin took the trouble to wear their
BGC Charity Day wristbands during the first innings of the Test.”
To promote the day further, various celebrities including Lucy Alexander, Rory Bremner, Lawrence Dallaglio, Eddie Jordan, Gary Lineker, Barry McGuigan and Zara Philips will be present at BGC’s offices on Monday 12th and will also help man a number of phones on the BGC trading floor, speaking with both staff and clients.

The Euro Brokers Relief Fund has been established as a charitable organization for the purpose of providing financial assistance to the families of (and others economically dependent on) Euro Brokers staff and employees who were killed in the World Trade Center
About The Shane Warne Foundation
The precise focus of The Shane Warne Foundation is to raise money for seriously ill and underprivileged children and teenagers by utilising his high profile as an Australian sporting icon. Unlike over charities, The Shane Warne Foundation will not directly provide help to kids, but will distribute monies raised to established charities.
